Young people of South Sligo document life with new exhibition
AN exhibition from young people detailing life south Sligo has opened and is continuing until the end of the month.
Titled ‘ South Sligo Snaps’ thehe exhibiexhibition is currently running in Tubberubbercurry Library, pictured.
The idea for the exhibitionn of photographs came from Monica Grossman as a type of community development project.
Monica wanted to get young people involved so she worked in collaboration with Foróige Youth Café.
The young people who took part in South Sligo Snaps are aged between 11 and 155 years and meet once a weekk to gather, mingle and be themselvesmselves among their peers in the Foróige óige club.
Monica explained that thee project aims to raise awareness and promote inclusion of the young people, where they often feel marginalised. A small survey carried out in the two Foróige groups involved, showed thatth though most of these y young people feel part of their communities, ties the majority feels sometimessom excluded by adultsad and don’t think thereth are enough outlets, specifically sportsp facilities, for teenagerste in the region.gi TheT pictures are a reflectionrefle on the young people’speop viewpoint. The exhibition in the library of Teach Laighne, Tubbercurry bercurry star started on 22 April and continues until 20 May.M
