The Sligo Champion

It’s better to be safe than sorry

-

Madam Editor, I have campaigned for a long time to get a register for all those engaged in hunting across the country. Also we have a situation where most of the blame for Bovine TB was laid at the door of the Badger for the spread of TB. Now we see a recent case in the UK where the Badger might not be the only culprit in this regard. The Kimblewick Hunt recently had 25 dogs put down suspected of contacting TB and another 120 were tested. There is great concern now about hunts coming onto farmland and if it is the case that the foxhounds are infected this would indeed be very bad news for the countryside at large. I would like to see our politicians take more of an interest in our hunting fraternity and at least set up a register of all hunts operating across Ireland. Also I believe full testing of all foxhounds should be put in place across the island of Ireland. Better to be safe than sorry. Yours Sincerely, Mr Michael A Rafter Castletown Easkey Co Sligo.
