Sligo Champion shortlisted in national media awards
SLIGO Champion Photographer Carl Brennan and Reporter Sorcha Crowley have both been shortlisted for the 2017 Local Media Awards.
Carl Brennan was nominated for his stunning photograph of the Yeats mural being torn down by a digger just off the Inner Relief Road published last October.
Sorcha Crowley’s feature on stroke patients has been shortlisted for Feature Story of the Year. She wrote about the team of researchers at IT Sligo who are helping stroke patients to move again - by using mirrors to trick their brains.
She interviewed Director of the Recognised Research Group at the IT, Ken Monahan about his light bulb moment which is changing peo- ple’s lives for the better around the North West.
The 2nd annual media awards are run by Local Ireland representing 46 local weekly newspapers in the Republic of Ireland.
The awards has 11 categories including: News Story of the Year; Best News Series; Sports Story of the Year; Feature Story of the Year and Photograph of the Year.
The judging panel is chaired by Dr. Michael Foley, former Lecturer in Journalism, School of Media, DIT, Professor Emeritus.
The category winners will be presented with specially commissioned awards by RTE Broadcaster Michael Lyster at a gala awards dinner in the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise next Thursday 18th May.
