Renovation for 8 Sligo schools
MORE than eight schools in Sligo will benefit from the Department of Education’s Summer Works Scheme.
This news comes after Minister for Education and Development Mr Richard Bruton announced that 438 schools across the country will receive € 47 million for vital school improvements.
The schools in Sligo include Corballa National School, Cloghogue National School in Castlebaldwin; Naomh Iosef National School in Templeboy; Scoil Ursula National School, Strandhill Road, ( pictured) Enniscrone National School, Ballymote National School, Colaiste Easkey Post- Primary and Grange Post Primary School
In Ballymote and Grange repairs will take place on the primary Schools toilets and in Naomh Iosef Templeboy roof work will be carried out, while other schools across the county will have mechanical up- grades.
Speaking to the Sligo Champion, Principal Eimear Harte from Grange Post- Primary welcomed the news of funding for the school.
“We are delighted to have received the application as we had applied a number of times previously and didn’t get it.
But it is fantastic to see our application from last year included in the work.”
The work will be carried out over the summer months, so the disruption to students, teachers and other school staff will be kept to a minimum. This money is part of the Summer Works Scheme of € 500m Education Capital Investment Plan. The scheme provides for major improvements in mechanical, sanitation and roof upgrades.
The Minister said he was ‘ pleased to be able to make this funding available.’
The capacity of schools to take responsibility for delivering small and medium- scale projects is a key component of the Summer Works Scheme.
“I am confident that school authorities will be able to achieve best value for money on prices for jobs. I call on schools to ensure that they maximise the benefit to their schools of the works sanctioned,” said the Minister.
