Rise in startups by women
MUCH work remains to be done to encourage more women to start businesses and become entrepreneurs according to Enterprise Ireland Chief Executive Julie Sinnamon. She was speaking at a regional Innovation Showcase at IT Sligo.
In her keynote address she said the lack of female entrepreneurs was a big problem. It is a global problem not just an Irish problem. Only 8% of tech entrepreneurs globally are female but things were looking up in Ireland.
“Up to 2011, 7% of our startups were female led, last year it was 22% so we are leading the field,” she said.
