Future is bright for tech students

THE future looks bright for a number of budding innovators from Grange Post- Primary School who have been excelling in the area of Information Technology.

Six second year students from the school recently qualified for the National Scratch Coding Competition in the University of Limerick.

Coding and Programming was introduced to the school more than three years ago to develop ICT and Coding skills with the students to enhance and broaden their learning.

A judge at the competition said that for three groups to qualify from the one school was a ‘ credit to the progress within the school’

The students who qualified were Jack Carroll, Ronan Gilmartin, Lee Cummins and Evan Gaughan.

All groups were commended on the quality and level of their projects.

Jack Davitt and Josh Fallon won first place for the best animation on the day.

In addition to the coding success, a first year group have embarked on an exciting new initiative called ‘ Consumers to Creators.’

They’ve devised an on line media hub within the school to support learning in the classroom.

They went on to win first prize in the Technology Section of the recent Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim Education Training Board awards ( MSLETB) along with their teacher Mrs Frawley.
