A meeting of legends as McStay and co recall time with Rovers

-

A very special group of Sligo Rovers legends met recently and shared memories of their time with the club.

The occasion was the visit of Willie McStay as guest of the local Celtic Supporters Club and joining him were former players Johnny Cook, Tony Fagan, David Pugh and Tony Stenson.

Sligo Rovers Heritage Group made a presentation of the official club history to Willie, one of the most successful managers in the club’s history.

Johnny Cook will be remembered by long- serving Rovers fans as a stylish winger who played for the club in the early 70s.

He is now a scout at Manchester United and travelled to Sligo to study the young emerging talent at the Sligo Super Cup which was taking place during the course of the weekend.

Willie was recalling his times with Rovers during a Q& A session in the Glasshouse Hotel, where he was asked numerous questions by Rovers fans about his time with the club which leaves lots of fond memories. The highlight of these being the treble winning season of 1993/ 94.
