SLIGO Tag 2017 is Back, Bigger and Better than ever.

What a season Sligo Tag had in 2016 with their slogan ‘ Bringing The Craic Back’ and this they certainly achieved. With the new season approaching again rapidly there’s a buzz of excitement in the air for a summer of fun for all fitness levels once again for Sligo Tag Rugby 2017.

Most are aware what Tag Rugby is but there are some that have asked the question what is Tag all about?

IRFU Volkswagen Tag is a non- contact form of rugby played by mixed teams of male and female players where the defender pulls a ‘ Tag’ strip attached by a velcro patch on the shorts of the attacking player/ s.

As it’s a non- contact sport it allows for maximum fun and allows for all fitness levels from beginners up and grades will be assigned to teams.

Tries will be scored in the usual format of rugby with a touch down

This year there is added excitement as there are fantastic new pitch facilities at Hamilton Park in Strand hill, the home of Sligo Rugby Club.

This will allow for more teams to register this year adding to the competitive and fun nature of the events.

During the ten weeks of tag, there will be a mix of hilarious fun and interactive events that tag has grown to be associated with and a large attraction to the tag season,

These are held after the games in the club house with two nights held in the Garavogue Bar ( Primary sponsor of Sligo Rugby Club), Last year tag teams organised theme nights such as fancy dress nights, Ruthies sports night and who could forget The Lip- sync Battle, for the social events alone tag registrations have grown year on year.

This year is showing even more registrations are coming in. With new exciting fun events mixed with old jazzed up favourites, the new pitch and more teams, what a season this promis- es to be. Sligo Tag begins with its first match on Thursday evening May 18th and every Thursday after this for 10 weeks, including two Fridays.

With teams already registering and interest growing it’s time to register your team before registrations are full so you don’t miss out on Sligo’s best tag yet.

To register. simply get a team of 12 people, with at least 3 women ( as 3 women must be on the pitch at all times) and log onto http:// www. irishrugby. ie/ tagrugby from your desktop to register. Check out SligoTag on Facebook or email Sinead, Justin and the Tag Committee at sligotag@ gmail. com.
