Sligo Hotels get new look for the summer season
THREE well known Sligo Hotels have undergone multimillion euro refurbishments in recent months just in time for the summer season.
The Radisson Blu in Ballincar, Markree Castle in Collooney and The Sligo Park Hotel on Pearse Road each unveiled their new look establishments in recent weeks.
The Radisson Blu Hotel officially launched a new look lobby, meeting suites and 40 bedrooms on 27th April. General Manager Seamus Preston said: “The owners are making a significant investment in the property which reflects the brands continued commitment in Sligo and to its customers. It’s an exciting time at the hotel, business is solid and we have exciting plans for the future.”
The comprehensive € 4.5million refurbishment programme includes all areas of the hotel. The significant refurbishment programme which will include the 132 guest bedrooms and suites, the Classiebawn Restaurant, the Benbulben Grand Ballroom, Benwisken Bar and Healthstyles Leisure Club.
Meanwhile the historic Markree Castle has been restored and re- opened with the official launch last Friday week. It will operate as an exclusive wedding and event venue, following a € 12 million renovation that lasted two years. The impressive 17th Century Gothic castle in joins Ballyseede Castle, Bellingham Castle and Cabra Castle in the Corscadden family’s exclusive hotel and venue portfolio of the “Romantic Castles of Ireland”.
For the last three decades the castle operated as a hotel and wedding venue. It was sold in 2014 and was closed to allow for a huge renovation.
Spokeswoman Arlene Gibbs said: “The renovation project was a mammoth task. It is a credit to the passion and ambition of the new owners; the Corscadden family, a renowned family of hoteliers, that it has been completed to an awe- inspiring standard.
“Derelict areas have been completely restored. Original features have been saved where possible; and where they were beyond repair, they were re- created by teams of specialist, highly skilled craftsmen from all over Europe.”
Antique paintings and furniture once again fill the castle. The original rose gardens have been maintained. Along with weddings, Markree will also offer conference, incentive and team building packages, all of which take full advantage of the castle’s location in Sligo, Ireland’s Adventure Capital.
