Funding pleas fall on ‘ deaf ears’

-

THE County Council is going to write to the Department of Transport and insist that they meet a delegation of Council members regarding funding for local roads.

Councillor Seamus Kilgannon’s motion highlighted the issue of funds to deal with the backlog of Local Improvement Schemes which is now entering its 7th year since any works were undertaken under that scheme.

“Rural dwellers whose homes are served by roads eligible under L. I. S. are just as entitled to a safe access to their home as any other section of the community,” he said.

Cllr Joe Queenan agreed. “Like Class 3 roads it has fallen on deaf ears. We’re putting up these motions and it’s falling on deaf ear in Dublin. I’m disappointed in all Oireachtas members from all parties. It’s only thrown in a pile and left there,” he said.

“The minister went down to Kerry. We’re bring him around here and we’ll show him potholes,” said Cllr Margaret Gormley.
