Concerns will be taken on board, HSE tells parents
THE HSE has told campaigning families that their concerns over health services will be taken on board and listened to, following a meeting on Friday last.
Six members of the ‘ Our Voice, Their Future’ campaign group met with six HSE representatives at Nazareth House last week.
The HSE representatives were heads of the relevant departments in the North- West.
Shelly Fletcher, who was present at the meeting, said the group was pleased with how it went.
“They took our concerns on board, it was very positive,” she told The Sligo Champion.
She continued: “They said that they are willing to work with us too so we’re happy with how it went.”
The group raised their concerns regarding respite care, the ongoing situation with the HSE’s Child and Mental Health Services ( CAMHS) and maternity leave cover for people working in these areas.
The HSE responded positively to the campaigners’ worries, and said they will meet again to discuss their concerns further.
“This was the first of many meetings,” Shelly said.
“We brought forward our concerns and they hadn’t seen them before so we have to give them a chance now to look through them and all and to respond to them too,” she added.
The HSE representatives had not been given the questions prior to the meeting.
“In fairness they took everything on board and they didn’t criticise us or our campaign or anything.
“They’re under pressure the same way that we’re all under pressure and we can understand where they’re coming from, like they can understand where we come from.
“They are willing to meet us again and they said they’re looking forward to it,” she added.
No date has yet been set for future meetings but the campaigners are hopeful of a number of meetings taking place with the HSE in the near future.
