Sligo students will take part in WW1 project
THE history project ‘ My Adopted Soldier’ which commemorates soldiers from the island of Ireland who died in WW1 will see 15 secondary school pupils join with 15 German students in a visit to the war zone around the city of Ypres in Belgium.
The visit has been facilitated by MEP Marian Harkin and a German colleague who has funded the students from Frankfort. This year’s event will take place from June 20th to 24th and will have involved each student in identifying a soldier from their area, developing his story, and visiting his grave in the Belgian battlefields.
