County Council views city car park blockade as ‘ serious’

SLIGO County Council says it viewed the unauthorised ‘ closing’ of one of its city centre car parks is being viewed as serious.

A temporary barrier was erected at the entrance to the lower Connaughton Road Car Park entrance last week where a family have been living for over 3o years in nearby caravans.

The Council stated that following its intervention in the matter the temporary barrier at the car park was removed.

“It appears that it was subsequently re- erected. The Council is liaising with the Gardaí in relation to this serious issue,” a spokesman said.

The entrance was blocked by a rope attached to some barrels.
