Colour run Sunday at Doorly Park
DOORLY Park in Sligo will be awash with bright hues this Sunday when participants take part in the Irish Cancer Society’s Colour Dash, sponsored by Aldi. The fun filled event gets underway at 12noon.
The Colour Dash is a five kilometre fun run open to all ages and abilities. A different colour of powder paint, representing different cancers and survivorship, is thrown at participants at each kilometre mark as they make their way to the finish line.
In Sligo, 562 people were diagnosed with cancer over a 12 month period, including 66 cases of prostate cancer, 46 cases of bowel cancer and 44 cases of breast cancer.
Funds raised through Colour Dash will help fund free support services and investments in cancer research to stop cancer.
Money raised from Colour Dash supports cancer patients on every step of their cancer journey, as well as funding vital cancer research to find better ways of treating and diagnosing cancer.
Last year in Sligo the Society’s Night Nurses delivered 151 nights of care to support patients to stay at home during their final days. 109 journeys were facilitated for patients from Sligo who used the Volunteer Driver Service which transports patients to and from their chemotherapy treatment.
Registration is € 30 per person, and € 5 for children under 12. Visit www. cancer. ie/ colourdash to register or Callsave 1850 60 60 60.
John McCormack, CEO of the Irish Cancer Society said: “Colour Dash is a fantastic opportunity for families in Sligo and neighbouring counties to enjoy a fun day out, while helping the 40,000 people in Ireland who will get a cancer diagnosis this year.”
