Footpaths on Factory Road

-

CRUMBLING footpaths along Gallagher Road ( Factory Road) in Tubbercurry cannot be repaired by Sligo County Council as it’s a private road.

Councillor Jerry Lundy was told this after asking if the footpaths could be repaired and public lighting installed on the Gallagher Road off the Ballina Road in the interest of safety for people and residents using the busy road.

“The footpath has crumbled. It’s in terrible condition,” said Cllr Lundy.

“It leads down to An Chroí, now a community facility. There’s no public lighting.

“If someone falls there, who is responsible?” he asked.

Director of Services Tom Kilfeather said it was a private road. “The initiative would have to come from a group of residents,” he said.

“I don’t know what the next round of Clár funding would be like,” suggested Mr Kilfeather.

“I’m sure the factories there might come up with some funding,” added Cllr Lundy. Separately, Councillor Marga- ret Gormley asked for works to be carried out at “Stirabout Bridge” at Cloonacool where a section of road lies unprotected for 25 metres.

Director of Services Tom Kilfeather said the area had been inspected and works were programmed for the coming weeks.

Meanwhile Curry Village will have to wait until next year to apply for Clár funding for two bus shelters on the N17.

Cllr Jerry Lundy had asked if Clár funding for 2017 could be used to provide the bus shelters.
