Coffins are almost floating in graves
COFFINS are practically floating when being lowered into graves such is the level of ground water in a Coolaney cemetery.
Councillor Keith Henry has asked the Council to investigate drainage problems at Rockfield Cemetery. He says a pump is needed to pump water out of graves, it’s gotten that bad.
“People are considering not using it. It’s an awful thing to see the graves being pumped out at such a sad time, minutes before the coffin is lowered into it,” said Cllr Henry.
Councillor Paul Taylor supported his motion. “It’s even been said that the coffin would move unless it’s covered very quickly,” he said.
Councillor Dara Mulvey said it was “disheartening” and also supported the motion.
The Tubbercurry area engineer will investigate the ground water problem to see if a solution can be found.
