A man who went on a “campaign of vandalism” on several cars in Sligo town last month has been remanded on continuing bail to allow time for Gardaí to tot up the damage bill.

Patrick Sweeney ( 41) of Rathbraughan Park, Ballytivnan, brought ¤ 2,500 in cash to court last week after he was asked to hand it into court.

He was charged with smashing the front windscreen of a silver Mercedes Benz belonging to Phazu Ngoma at Emmett Place on April 11th.

Judge Kilrane recalled “there was a series of cars and windscreens smashed as Patrick Sweeney went on a campaign of vandalism.”

Inspector Paul Kilcoyne said the total bill had not been amounted for yet.

“The price of fixing glass in vehicles varies from car to car,” he told Judge Kilrane.

His solicitor, Mr Tom MacSharry, said the incident happened when his client had taken alcohol and anti- depressants.

Judge Kilrane said Sweeney had a “serious drink problem” and adjourned the matter to July to enable an accurate calculation be prepared on the value of the damage done and “some additional payment to the victims for the inconvenience.”
