Tried to strike Garda and was abusive

-

A man with mental health issues has been remanded on continuing bail to March of next year to monitor his behaviour.

47- year- old John Finnegan of Lughdoon, Templeboy, Co Sligo, pleaded guilty to two counts of Public Order charges at Holborn Street on July 6th last year.

Defence solicitor Mr Edmund Henry said his client had “serious mental health issues” and had been in St Columba’s mental health unit for some time.

Inspector Paul Kilcoyne said Finnegan was abusive towards Gardaí and stumbling at 8pm that day and tried to strike a Garda on Holborn Street.

“That was the one day in the last three years I had a drink,” Finnegan told Judge Kilrane.

The judge said he would adjourn the case to March 22nd 2018 and said if there was nothing further against him on that date he would strike out the matter.

He warned Finnegan not to have even “a spoonful” of drink while he was on medication.
