BUDDING JUNIOR AUTHORS

Three local school children were among the area winners in the Write a Book Project at the Prize Presentati­on Event which was recently held at the Clayton Hotel, Sligo. This Project encourages National School children to become real authors and create their own book fully engaging in the process of writing composing constructi­ng designing illustrati­ng and presenting their own work in book form.

Well done to the three local winners in the Sligo County section. The two children from High Park National School were Siobhán O’Connell, Garyduff, Templeboy with her book My Book of Animal Facts and Matthew McMunn, Caltragh, Dromard with his book USA. The winner from Ballinlig National School was Aoife Whelan, Bunnina, Dromard with her book Aura. Each child was presented with a Trophy and Certificat­e by well known Northern Ireland storytelle­r and writer Liz Weir, who was very impressed with all the entries.

MAY SOCIAL DANCE NIGHT

The May Social Dance will take place on Saturday, May 27, in the Community Centre, Skreen with music supplied by Dermot McConnell from 10 p. m. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy a good night of music and dancing.

FIRST COMMUNION

Ten children from the local Ballinlig and High Park National Schools made their First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 13, in St’s Peter and Paul Church Dromard at 11 a. m. Mass. Congratula­tions to Grainne MacDonald, Caomhog McManus, Callum Finnerty, Ellen Tempany, Kate Bradley, Ruth Bradley, Jayden Gilgan, Riona Bonner, Brandon Meehan and Katie Walsh.

COMMUNITY CARE TRIP

The local Skreen- Dromard Community Care summer Outing takes place on Tuesday, May 30, to the National Stud Japanese Gardens and Kildare Village. The all in cost is € 40 per person and this includes breakfast and dinner along the way. COMMUNITY NOTICE

A meeting is scheduled in the Skreen- Dromard Community Centre with local councillor­s on Thursday, May 25, at 7 p. m. to discuss the Draft Sligo County Developmen­t Plan of 2017 – 2023 and the impact of the introducti­on of same on scenic routes in our area. Please attend to show support for the communitie­s objection to the plan.

BELTRA COUNTRY MARKET

The next workshop at Beltra Country Market will take place on Saturday, May 27, and will be a Guitar Open Mic and Beginners event with Steve Hannigan. The Market runs from 10 a. m. to midday each Saturday and everyone welcome.

Events dates – Saturday, June 3: County Art and Clay Modelling in Ballymote NS for those who have qualified from the local competitio­n. Wednesday, June 22: County Cycling in Tubbercurr­y for those who have qualified from the local competitio­n. Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25: County Athletics Finals for those who have qualified from the local competitio­n.
