First LGBT theatre festival in Sligo
THE first LGBT ( lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Theatre festival in Sligo will take place next weekend from June 8th to June 10th.
‘ Where We Are Now’ consists of theatrical shows across seven venues in Sligo.
Produced by the Rabbits Riot Theatre Company, the ethos of the group is to work with marginalised voices.
“I went to college with the co- founders of Rabbit’s Riot,” explained Killian Glynn, Artistic Director of the festival.
“We’ve been working on this since the start of the year. We put a call out on social media to find new writing. We were lucky that a really popular blog picked it up and we got floods of emails.
“We had something like 220 submissions and it was just overwhelming,” he added.
The selection of shows was then narrowed down, and there is a wide range of topics covered throughout the festival.
“This is not just for LGBT people,” said Killian, a Castlebar native.
Each show is priced individually. There are two quadruple bills. For more information check out http:// therabbitsriotthea. wixsite. com/ rabbitsriottc.
