Collided on narrowroad
The driver of a 4- wheel drive who collided with an oncoming car on a narrow road has been convicted of careless driving and banned from driving for a year.
31- year- old Thomas Skeffington approached a vehicle coming in the opposite direction on a narrow road at Tullycusheen, Tubbercurry on September 6th 2016.
Inspector Paul Kilcoyne told the court that the other car stopped and Skeffington lost control of his 4- wheel drive and collided with the oncoming car on the narrow stretch of road.
Judge Kilrane was shown a photo of the collision.
He agreed to reduce the charge against Skeffington from one of Dangerous Driving to one of Careless Driving.
Skeffington was also charged with driving without insurance, tax or a driver’s licence.
Inspector Kilcoyne said the defendant had 17 previous convictions for drugs offences, Public Order and Road Traffic matters.
Mr Gerard McGovern, defending, said Skeffington admitted full responsibility for the collision and was an unemployed father of young children.
Judge Kilrane convicted Skeffington and fined him ¤ 200 for driving without insurance and ¤ 200 for Careless Driving.
He also disqualified him from driving for a year.
