Obstructed Gardaí

-

A man who pleaded guilty to obstructing a Garda at his then family home may escape a four month prison sentence if he’s found suitable for Community Service.

31- year- old Keith McDermott of Knappagh Road, Sligo was also accused of assault at the same address on January 26th 2016 but this charge was struck out.

Inspector Donal Sweeney said McDermott was in an altercation with his partner at their home on that date.

Gardaí were called and had to climb in a window to remove a 15- month- old child from a bedroom.

“He was arrested and was under the influence of some kind of intoxicant,” said the inspector.

He said McDermott has seven previous convictions for Public Order and assault.

The court heard the Child and Family Agency were notified by Gardaí and had visited.

Judge Kilrane said it was “a very worrying situation for a young child” but remanded McDermott to July 27th for the preparation of a Probation Report.

If found suitable by the Probation Service, he would order him to carry out 200 hours of Community Service in lieu of four months in prison.
