Inclusion Ireland meetingin Forthill
INCLUSION Ireland, the national association for people with an intellectual disability, is holding two information meetings on the new Assisted Decision- Making ( Capacity) Act on Wednesday 7 June at the Northside Community Centre, Forthill, Sligo. The two sessions will take place at 11am- 12.30pm and 7.30pm- 9.00pm.
Mark O’Connor of Inclusion Ireland will be speaking at the meeting. He says: “The new law will apply to most of us at some point in our lives either directly or through a family member.
“We don’t have to have a disability or impairment but it’s about a person whose ability to make certain kinds of decisions is in doubt. It’s easy to see how, if we live long enough we can all fall under that umbrella.”
“The Act is relevant for parents of children with intellectual disability or autism whose son or daughter is turning 18. They face the prospect of no longer being the guardian for their adult son or daughter.”
The new law, puts in place new arrangements for assessing and supporting a person’s ability to make important decisions.
This meeting is an opportunity to learn more about the implications of the Act.
