Strong defence sees Harps win
ON a wet evening in Riverstown Community Park, Arrow Harps claimed the U12 Girls Cup upsetting all the odds and the form book.
Harps had been well beaten earlier in the season by Tubber but knew on this winner take all final that they had a chance .
Out of the gate, Tubber put together some fine attacks but these were defended well by the Harps’ defence and Sarah McKiernan in the Harps’ goal.
Then, against the run of play, Harps broke forward through the ever lively Lara Swann whose sublime run set up a chance for Molly Mulhern who made no mistake and shot to the net to the applause of the large crowd.
Tubber continued their relentless search for a goal but were thwarted on each occasion by the Harps defence.
Leading by one goal at half time, the Harps girls started to believe.
It was much the same in the second half with Harps’ defence shutting out the Tubber advances but they were not getting past the strong defence.
When the final whistle went Harps were victorious.
Captain Nola Eivers lifted the cup over her head to the rapturous celebrations of the home team.
This was a brilliant performances from all the girls however the girl of the game would have to go to Harps’ keeper Sarah McKiernan who put in a polished performance in goals.
Hard luck to Tubber but there are sure to have great battles
