U17 hurlers loss

SLIGO were defeated by Roscommon in the fourth round of the Celtic Challenge played in Athleague on Saturday. The final score was Roscommon 5- 14, Sligo 1- 12.

Although the scoreline would suggest a comfortabl­e win for Roscommon, the game was a very competitiv­e one. Sligo got the first point of the match from play. Roscommon’s first score, a goal came from a free outfield. Sligo kept in touch but another three soft goals left Roscommon with a very comfortabl­e lead, 4- 9 to 0- 6 at half time.

Sligo outscored Roscommon in the second half by 1- 6 to 1- 5 but it wasn’t sufficient. Andrew Kilcullen received “The Best and Fairest Award “for Sligo from the match referee with Roscommon’s goalkeeper picking up his side’s award.

Attention is now turned towards the final match in the group stages against Mayo in Markievicz Park on Wednesday. Sligo will be hoping for a win and an improvemen­t in their position on the table.
