Westsiders take the win
ENNISCRONE/ KILGLASS picked up their fifth win in Division Three of the Sligo Senior Football League thanks to a comprehensive ninepoint defeat of Cloonacool at Quigabar last Sunday afternoon. In fine conditions, the west Sligo side always looked in control of proceedings and established a 2- 8 to 1- 2 half- time lead and saw out the second half to end as winners. The highlight of the opening half was Kevin Cawley’s excellent goal midway through the first period with a fine left- footed finish. With Brian Coleman impressing at corner forward, the seasiders were comfortably in the ascendency at 1- 6 to 0- 2 when Cloonacool broke to hit the net after some good build- up play along the right wing. With four minutes to go in the half only four points separated the sides, 1- 6 to 1- 2, but Enniscrone/ Kilglass produced an excellent spell with 1- 2 in a matter of minutes to enter the break in a comfortable advantage. Brian Coleman’s goal was their best score in this period, after some impressive build- up play involving Donal Mullaney and Aaron Duffy. On the restart the game became cagey with Enniscrone/ Kilglass looking to protect their lead, but they managed to register six second half points with Coleman and Mark Gordon among the protagonists. The home side failed to dominate as they did in the first half and were particularly wasteful in attack, but Cloonacool couldn’t close the deficit sufficiently though Jason Brennan and the impressive Fergus Leonard raised white flags in the closing stages of the game.
