Success at Track and Field finals
THE Connacht Schools Track and Field Finals show some brilliant performances from Sligo AC athletes at the event in Athlone.
Conditions were extremely mixed, ranging from warm sunshine to torrential downpours.
The race walkers really excelled and their superior technique was readily apparent.
In the Junior 1200M Walk, Mercy College student Ruth Monaghan claimed Gold in 6.11, a full 41 seconds faster than last year.
Ursuline College’s Eve Delahunt won the Inter 2000M in 10.58 with Summerhill’s Ryan Roberts second in the 2000M in 10.30, almost 50 seconds faster than last year.
Great running also from Lauren Cadden who claimed Gold in the Senior 200M in a strong 25.72.
Well done to some of the other Sligo AC athletes too.
Leo Doherty led for most of the Senior 800M but was just caught on the 200M bend and edged out of the medals.
Maedbh Mooney ran really well and was 4th in both the 100M and 200M. Darragh Williams was 5th in the Inter 800M while Jack Cawley ran well in the Inter 400M.
Ross Doherty was 5th in the Minor 800M. Congrats to all the various teachers and schools.
In particular, well done to the Sligo AC coaches Ray Flynn, Karl Boyce, Alan Kearins and Dermot McDermott.
