GEEVAGH

Geevagh GAA club invites all its members and supporters to participate in a much needed tidy- up of our playing facilities scheduled to take place in the resource centre next Saturday morning, June 3rd, at 10am. As we are now in the peak season it is important that our clubs grounds and facilities are at their best for the many big games over the summer months.

Heartiest congratulations to Stephanie O’Reilly who was named at centre forward on the Lidl ladies division 2 team of the year. This recognition is richly deserved by a player who has performed consistently at the highest level for many years bringing honours to both club and county and earning the respect of the entire GAA community.

The u8s and u10s sparkled in the sunshine in Pairc Ailbhe on Wednesday evening last when we hosted St Pats and enjoyed three exciting games.

Congratulations to the footballers of KIlmactranny NS who have qualified for the Cuman na mBunscol two teacher final in Markievicz Park on June 17th.

The senior ladies were defeated by St Nathys in the league final in Collooney on Sunday morning. Despite a spirited second half performance featuring fine displays by Rebekah Breheny, Gemma Brehony, and mid fielder, Sarah Reynolds, St Nathys were stronger throughout and ran out convincing winners.

Later that afternoon the intermediate footballers brushed aside the challenge of St Michaels to maintain their position on top of the division 2 league table. We host Bunninadden next weekend in Geevagh.

The Geevagh/ St Michaels U16 team were defeated by Curry on Wednesday evening 24th. Our next game is on Mon June 26th when we have a home game V Ballymote/ Bunninadden.

St Michaels/ Geevagh U18 next game will be on June 30th when we travel take on St Pat’s. Training for both panels on Thursday 1st June in Geevagh at 7.30pm and after this we will taking a break.

Best of luck to all club members sitting Junior and Leaving Certificate exams over the coming weeks.

COOLERA/ STRANDHILL

THE lotto numbers drawn on Monday May 15th were 1, 10, 20, and 24. There was no jackpot winner, nor were there any Match Three winners. The jackpot is now € 1900. The lotto draw takes place at 9pm every Monday night in Coolera/ Strandhill GAA Club House, Ransboro Park. Tickets can be bought at Keane’s Supermarket, Strandhill; Margaret’s Café, Finisklin and Bree’s Bar, Strandhill. For further details, contact Joe Gildea or Rose Cawley or check the club website www. coolerastrandhill. com. U12 Hurling COOLERA Strandhill U12 hurlers played Tubbercurry on Tuesday last at Ransboro in what was an open game of hurling which was allowed flow by ref John Doyle. In the end Coolera Strandhill ran out winners 8 scores to 6 scores. Overall it was much improved display by the team from the Castleconnor match with Kevin Davitt and Aidan Moran making key interceptions throughout the match and Tadgh Dogget and Jack McDaniell stopping the running game of Tubber assisted by midfielders Oisin Hennessey and Jack Feeney. The forwards of Shane O’Loughlin, Oisin Whelan, Ronan Adams and Mark Keane took some fine scores and won vital frees throughout the match. The introduction of Ultan Bree, Aidan O’Loughlin and Tadhg Murphy revitalised the team, making vital blocks and clearances. OUR under 10 hurlers recently travelled to Easkey to take part in a blitz. They played three matches, against Tubbercurry, Western Gaels and Tourlestrane. The boys put in a great effort, winning two out of the three matches. Well done everyone. THE junior ladies finished their league campaign in style with a comprehensive victory over Curry in Scarden last Wednesday. With Jacqui Mulligan dominant at centre half back and the midfield pair of Mary Stenson and Ruth Goodwin running tirelessly to set up numerous scoring opportunities, the girls were to run up an impressive tally of 4- 17 to their opponents’ 3- 05. It was a satisfactory conclusion to a league that was to be a real learning experience for the younger players, and the manner in which the team played the latter stages shows promise for the championship. A quick reminder to all managers that it is their responsibility to ensure that the dressing rooms ( including the away dressing room) and storage shed are left clean and tidy after matches and training sessions. Any property left on the premises will be retained for a maximum of 28 days. Please contact Tom Brennan at 086/ 0231196 for enquires regarding lost property. BEST wishes to our under 10 mixed and under 12 girls who compete in the County Finals of the Community Games this evening ( Tuesday) in Markievicz Park. Our under 10s are in the final thanks to wins over Rosses Point, St. Mary’s and a semi- final win over St. Feichin’s. They play Curry in the final at 7.00. The girls received a walk- over from Drumcliffe, before defeating Tubbercurry/ Cloonacool in a tight semi- final. They play St. Mary’s in the final at 8.00pm. All support for these young stars would be much appreciated. OUR senior footballers got back to winning ways with a comprehensive win over Owenmore Gaels in Ransboro on Saturday evening. The full time score was 2- 12 to 0- 03. Best wishes for a spedy recovery to Conor McDonagh who went off with a nasty foot injury. Next up is a crucial tie away to St. John’s.

ST FARNAN’S

THE under 16 St. Farnan’s/ St. Pat’s team had another fine win in the B league when they defeated St. Mary’s on Thursday in Kent Park on a score of 3- 15 to 2- 13. The intermediate team played Castleconnor on Sunday in the league. The final score was Castleconnor 1- 4. St. Farnan’s 1- 14. This match saw the welcome return of Patrick O’Connor to club football. The game was also set for a midfield contest between the two county players Patrick O’Connor and Kevin Mc Donnell of Castleconnor. St. Farnan’s will be happy with this performance and with the performances of the minor players on the field. The team will be hoping to build on this win as they face neighbours St. Pat’s on Sunday in Templeboy.

The under 12 team play away to Castleconnor on Tuesday at 7 pm. The Junior team play Curry on Saturday at 6pm in Templeboy. Good luck to the club’s players on Sligo under 17 Hurling team against Mayo in the Celtic Challenge match on Wednesday in Markievicz Park.

The club extends sympathy to Claire and Colin Scott and family on the death of Claire’s father, Kevin Kirrane, Tourlestrane. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh sé. DRUMCLIFFE/ ROSSES POINT LAST Friday evening’s girls 16 A league final between ourselves and St Mary’s served up a memorable hour of football. We trailed Mary’s by 16 points at half- time before staging a gutsy second- half comeback to reduce the gap to a single point. St Mary’s held on to win by the bare minimum 9- 10 to 10- 6. If the U16 championship proves to be half as entertaining, we’re in for a good summer. Our girls U14 footballers resume their league campaign this Tuesday evening with a match away to Geevagh at 7pm. On the men’s front, the seniors were beaten by St Molaise Gaels in Division 1 on Saturday evening on a final scoreline of 0- 10 to 0- 4 at Monsignor Hynes Park. Poor finishing proved costly for the team despite good periods of play, particularly in the first half. With three league matches remaining, we are still awaiting our first win in the top flight. Next up: St Mary’s this Sunday, June 4th in Oxfield at lunchtime ( Throwin: 1pm). The junior team will try to continue their unbeaten start their Division 4 league campaign when they host Coolera/ Strandhill at Oxfield Saturday evening at 6pm. Their opponents in the final will be St John’s. The U16 decider will be played after the completion of the Junior Certificate. Our boys U12 football teams play St John’s in the league this Tuesday evening in Stenson Park at 7pm. The Benbulben Gaels U14 hurlers continued their winning ways with a comprehensive 6- 7 to 1- 2 success against Tourlestrane last Friday evening, and have now qualified for the League final. This will be ideal preparation for next month’s trip to Wexford where the Gaels will represent Sligo in the U14 Féile na nGael 2017. The Benbulben Gaels hurlers are away to Tubbercurry/ Cloonacool in the league next Tuesday, June 6th at 7pm. Our senior team had a hard- fought but deserved 0- 10 to 0- 04 win at home to Drumcliffe/ Rosses Point in the 6th round of the senior league on Saturday night last. Gaels led by 0- 08 to 0- 02 at the interval and despite playing against a strong breeze in the second period contained well the attacking efforts of their opponents and two fine scores from Keelan Watters in that second half secured an important two points.
