New infants will visit our school on Wednesday, May 31, at 2.10. A huge congratula­tions to the Green School Committee for achieving their sixth Green Flag for Global Citizenshi­p. Well done to everyone who was involved in achieving a Plaque of Science Excellence from Discover Primary Science.

Congratula­tions and well done to all the children in second class who made their First Communion on Sunday, May 14, A special thanks to Ms Regan, Mrs Cooney, Ann and Karen for all their work. Thanks to the parents’ associatio­n for organising a great party in the school afterwards.

CAKE SALE

A cake sale will be held on Friday, June 2, at the offices of Roger McCarrick, Tubbercurr­y from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. ( or till all cakes go). Proceeds are in support of Tubbercurr­y Cancer Support Centre. A raffle will be held on the day. Your support is much appreciate­d.

COMHALTAS NOTES

The monthly Comhaltas session will take place in Nathy Brennan’s on Friday night, June 2. Junior session starts at 9 p. m. and senior session at 10 p. m. All musicians very welcome.

As you know the County Fleadh will be held in Sligo town this year. It runs from May 27 to June 4 the Fleadh is teaming up to assist the Northwest Hospice which is currently running a fundraiser to raise money for develop- ment of their facility on the Mall. Their fundraiser will culminate on the weekend of the Fleadh ( Bank Holiday Weekend June 2 fourth), and the occasion will be marked by officially naming the footbridge at Rockwood Parade. Sligo County Council is involved in this aspect also.

Comhaltas’s contributi­on will be providing outdoor entertainm­ent on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Stephens Street car park. Many of the high profile musicians in the county have agreed to play on stage over the weekend. We look forward to seeing our local musicians perform and thank them for their generosity. Good luck to all our local competitor­s, to win is nice but participat­ion and enjoying your music brings lifelong friendship­s and fulfilment.

25TH ANNIVERSAR­Y

Twenty five years ago, on May 3, 1992, Banada Abbey Secondary School Senior Football Team won the all- Ireland Colleges ‘ B’ Title when they defeated Edenderry ( Offaly) in a replay match in Hyde Park Roscommon.

A function is being organised to celebrate and relive some of the great moments of this magnificen­t achievemen­t. It will be held in the Yeats County Hotel, Curry on Saturday, June 3, commencing at 8 p. m. A full Buffet meal will be served at 9 p. m. and the cost of tickets is € 20.

CANCER SUPPORT

The centre relies totally on the generosity of everyone who continues to organise fundraisin­g events and those who give donations. We are eternally grateful and never cease to be amazed at how this selfless generosity continues throughout these difficult trying times. This Centre is not about cancer, it is about recovery.

SLIGO ROSE CELEBRATIO­N

An evening in honour of Lisa Maloney ( Cloonacool), our beautiful Sligo Rose and Clodagh Gavigan, her Rosebud, has been planned for Friday, June 16, at 8.15 p. m. in Cloonacool Community Centre. It will be a relaxed social evening with refreshmen­ts and a chance to meet Lisa and Clodagh. There will be a bucket on the night, if people wish to contribute to Lisa’s campaign. All our welcome.
