SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to John Dobson Main Street Enniscrone on the death of his partner Shelia Dempsey, which occurred recently. Sympathy also to her mother, family member’s in- laws, relatives and friends. The remains were removed to Cootehill Church, Co Cavan on Thursday, May 18, and burial took place in the adjoining cemetery on Friday, May 19, after 11.30 Mass in Cootehill Church. May she rest in peace.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Congratula­tions to the 14 boys and girls who made their First Holy Communion in the Church of the Holy Family, Kilglass on Sunday, May 20. Well done to the teachers, parents and family who prepared them for their special day.

GOLF CLASSIC

A golf classic will take place in Enniscrone Golf Club on Friday, July 7, in Aid of Kilglass National School. Teams of four persons – Club member team’s € 80/ visiting teams € 120. TIDY TOWNS

Enniscrone Tidy Towns are holding a church gate collection on June 3 and four. Work is under way preparing for this year’s Tidy Towns competitio­n and financial assistance will be very much appreciate­d. Thank you.

WALKING CLUB

The walk this week Saturday, June 3, is Benwisken. The level is hard Open Mountain and takes 4- 5 hours.

ENNISCRONE/ KILGLASS GAA

We have been overwhelme­d with the generosity of the local community and indeed beyond in our fundraisin­g efforts for the new Indoor astroturf complex. After last week’s collection we are at € 67,400 and wish to thank all of those who have donated already for their fantastic generosity. We still require just under € 10,000 more to reach our target and anyone with sponsorshi­p this week can hand it in at Hilltop Culleens between 8.30 p. m. and 9.30 p. m. on Monday evening ( May 22). Congratula­tions to Chanelle Veterinary and Tommy and Rohna Battle, who won the prizes of € 1,000 and € 500 in our donor draw last Monday evening.

Our intermedia­te team collected an important two points in Division Three last Saturday evening courtesy of a 1- 12 to 0- 9 defeat of St Mary’s at Kent Park. Travelling with a heavily depleted squad, those given an opportunit­y put in a good shift with Aaron Duffy’s first half goal the difference between the sides at the break, 1- 5 to 0- 5. The lads did well to withstand St Mary’s increased pressure in the second half to end as six- point winners. They face Cloonacool at home next Sunday afternoon at 1 p. m. in Quigabar your support would be appreciate­d for this fixture.

Our under- 16 boys play Coolaney- Mullinabre­ena on Thursday evening at 7 p. m. in Cloonacool Community Park.

Our under- 14s had a superb one- point win over Tubbercurr­y/ Cloonacool last Friday evening, on a scoreline of 6- 8 to 7- 4 at Kil- coyne Park. The team showed tremendous resilience to come back from the concession of early goals to end as winners in a frantic finish. They have a play again on Monday evening, May 22, when they host St John’s from 7 p. m.

FUNDRAISER – With our under- 14s travelling to represent their club and county in Féile Peil na nÓg in Co Cavan at the end of June, a fundraiser will take place on Sunday, June 4, in the Diamond Coast Hotel with Declan Nerney. Tickets are available locally. Please support this as this talented outfit go to represent the parish on the national stage.

Connacht SFC – Commiserat­ions to both Sligo teams on their losses to Mayo at McHale Park last Sunday afternoon. Eoin Hallinan lined out at centre half back for the under- 17 side.

MOY VALLEY

tHE Moy Valley AC 5K summer series walk/ jog/ run for fun starts on Thursday, June 1, in Enniscrone. Registrati­on from 6.45 p. m., beside lifeguard station, start time; Walkers 7 p. m., Runners 7.15 p. m. Entry Fee: Adults € 5; Juveniles € 2.

Enniscrone Golf Club will celebrate its Centenary Year in 2018. A history of the club is being prepared for publicatio­n. There was no winner of the jackpot € 7,900 when the draw took place last Saturday night. Numbers drawn were 2, 7 and 13. € 25 winners were David Ray, Róisín Aoife and Seán Cummins, Frank Melvin, and Seán Gaughan/ John Madden. The jackpot is € 8,100 and the draw will take place in the McNulty’s Bar on Saturday, June 3.
