In the past twelve months he has appeared in a critically acclaimed tour of the UK as well as performing across Europe. His appearances on television have included 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown and the hugely popular three- part BBC2 series Reginald D Hunter’s Songs Of The South which documented Reginald’s epic road trip from North Carolina to New Orleans through 150 years of American popular song.
THE SUCCESSFUL TD
On Saturday the 10th of June, The Successful TD comes to the Hawk’s Well Theatre. Based on The Letters of a Successful TD and An Irish Minister of State by John B Keane, The Successful TD follows the trials, tribulations, misadventures and hilarious antics of Tull McAdoo as he seeks re- election to the Dail in the “October Elections”.
Written in the 1960s, Keane’s edge for humor and satire remain uncomfortably close to the politics of today. Directed by Michael Scott and starring Jon Kenny and Mary McEvoy, the show is peppered with Keane’s gallery of madcap characters in a performance will have you laughing at politics ( in a good way) from the start.
The story follows Tull, who has roped in the help of his faithful daughter Kate while his wife nurses her various ailments in bed, but his arch enemy Flannery the local school teacher plans to scupper the election for Tull. “Any man with a vote is a man to be respected. I’ll play with them, lie to them, sing dumb about them while I have a chance of a vote. That’s my livelihood. Don’t give me no more stink about the truth. Christ told the truth and they crucified Him…’
A great show awaits and tickets will sell fast, so early booking is advised!
Tickets for this show are € 20/ 18conc. with a special rate of € 10 for under 18s and are available from the Hawk’s Well Theatre Box Office on 071 916 1518 or www. hawkswell. com.
