Thomas to volunteer in South Africa
COOLANEY’S Thomas Gormley will be travelling to South Africa this November to take part in the Mellon Educate Building Blitz, building a school for a township.
To date, the charity has built 12 new schools and renovated more, providing over 10,000 young children with a better chance at life.
To get there, Thomas must raise € 4,500, with all funds lodged by August 15th.
“Two guys from work went last year and they said it was a really good experience. I have a background in farming and con- struction so when I have the skill set to help I’d like to be able to give some- thing back,” he told The Sligo Champion.
He has significant amount of the funds already raised: “Of the € 4,500 I have to raise, € 1,500 pays for flights and accommodation. The rest of the money goes to materials. So I’ve raised about € 2,500 through work,” he said.
Peter Mulvaney and other locals will be going around door- to- door in Coolaney with donation cards, and anyone looking to donate can do so in O’Grady’s Shop, Coolaney.
