Leonie woos the judges with dream garden on small scale
Sligo garden designer and interior architect Leonie Cornelius has scooped a major award at this year’s Bloom flower and food festival at the Phoenix Park in Dublin.
She was the overall Small Garden winner for her ‘ Everyone has a Dream’ show garden.
‘ Everyone has a Dream’ is a small show garden for the popular Woodie’s brand.
This dreamy space combines old and new and aims to show how, through careful design consideration and creative thinking, people can build the garden of their dreams on a small scale.
It aims to show how simple products such as stone, copper and painted surfaces can combine to create a truly unique and personalised space, which is all about customisation and creative thinking.
Leonie ( 36) is a garden designer and interior architect.
Her company, Blume Design, specialises in customised garden and interior designs for companies and brands, as well as private clients.
One of Ireland’s leading garden designers, Leonie has worked on the RTÉ Today Show as the regular garden design expert and is a judge on the popular RTÉ Super Garden show.
In 2016, she started working as the Woodie’s Design Ambassador and collaborates on unique design projects and ideas with the well- known brand. Leonie’s first book, Dream Gardens, is in shops now.
Also celebrating is Skreen based Western Plant Nursery Ltd which was awarded a Nursery Garden Silver Medal at the festival.
Bord Bia announced the details of all award winners ( as the gates opened last Thursday on the annual five- day event, which ran until yesterday, Monday.
It took more than 30 days to build the site in the Phoenix Park for the various gardens.
The judging panel for Bloom 2017 comprised of 14 Irish and international horticultural experts, who awarded more than 100 awards to show garden designers, amateur postcard garden designers; nurseries and floral artists including 28 gold, 18 silver gilt, 21 silver and 21 bronze medals.
