Wasn’t insured to drive his boss’s company car

-

A man who drove a work van while not realising he wasn’t insured to drive it has escaped a driving ban.

31- year- old Barry Blenkey, of Humbert Street, Tubbercurry, pleaded guilty last week to driving without insurance at Circular Road, Tubbercurry on September 9th 2015.

The court heard he had previous convictions for the misuse of drugs and drink driving dating back to 2008 and 2005.

His solicitor, Mr Tom MacSharry, handed in references in relation to Blenkey’s current work prospects.

Blenkey testified that on the date in question he had been working in Dublin when a problem arose with his van.

“My boss gave me a vehicle to use. As far as I was concerned, it was insured,” he told the judge.

“I drove down from Dublin in the vehicle and I was caught,” he said.

Blenkey said he was a mechanical engineer and worked all over the UK and Ireland.

Judge Kilrane fined him ¤ 300 but did not disqualify from driving.
