Victory for Seamus Somers in Cliffoney

SEAMUS Somers emerged victorious for the third time in four years in the Cliffoney 8K on Friday evening.

A small group consisting of Somers and North Sligo duo Craig Brennan and Cian McBride broke away early into the race held on a flat, fast course. However, with roughly 3K to go, Somers opened up a lead and he crossed the line in 26: 27.

Craig Brennan was 2nd in 26: 55 with Cian McBride 3rd in 27: 17.

Great running also from Audrey Colreavy who made it a Sligo AC double by winning the Womens Race in 31: 54.

It was a good day for Sligo AC runners in general. Damien Kennedy finished 7th in 28: 14 PB. Jason McMorrow was 9th in 29: 27, Sean Colreavy 12th in 31: 25, Gerry Gilmartin 13th in 31: 45 PB, Brian McDonagh 18th in 32: 28, Ossian Geraghty 21st in 33: 38, Joe Davey 23rd in 33: 46 PB, Stephen Gilgan 32nd in 35: 27 PB, Brendan McCarrick 39th in 37: 39, Mary B. McDonagh 44th in 38: 07, Ruth Walshe 61st in 40: 07 and Fionnuala Silke 63rd in 40: 21.

This was the fourth running of the Cliffoney 8K and well done to Desie O Connor, Michael Carney and their many helpers on what was a very well organised race.
