The other side of Eva Gore- Booth; at this year’s Yeats Day Nora Niland lecture

-

‘’ Yeats is an international symbol of the creative and cultural vibrancy of Sligo and the West of Ireland. Analysis commissioned by the WDC showed a global audience of close to 34 million were reached during the Yeats 2015 programme. Such exposure bodes well for Sligo and The western region and the Yeats legacy needs to be nurtured and supported. ‘’

THE second annual Nora Niland lecture will be delivered by Professor Sean Golden at The Model on Wednesday June 14th. The lectures were launched last year by Yeats Day to honour the extraordinary dedication and diligence of the Sligo County Librarian Nora Niland who dedicated much of her life to the creation of a fine collection of Jack B Yeats paintings which are in the care of The Model. Niland worked hard at persuading and cajoling many people to donate, sponsor and buy Jack Yeats paintings for the people of Sligo and, in that regard, showed the essence of true public service. Niland also contributed much to the establishment of the Yeats Society and its annual summer school, now in its 58th year.

Professor Golden’s lecture is entitled ‘ One a Gazelle; the Eva Gore- Booth that Yeats never knew.’ He is at the East Asian Studies & Research Centre at the University of Barcelona, Spain. Golden is a distinguished academic and writer, with a lifelong love of Yeats and is originally from Sligo. The event starts at 7pm and is free of charge.
