Tubber has a new Chamber President
She’s a well known face in Tubbercurry for her involvement in the community, and Geraldine Brennan has now strengthened her commitment to the town by taking on the role of President of Tubber Chamber.
Geraldine has been Vice President for two years to the outgoing President Louise Kilbane.
Geraldine is also Chairperson of Tubbercurry Tidy Towns, and owns her own business in Tubbercurry - a launderette.
“My role will be to lead the Chamber and the community in Tubbercurry. I’ll build on work that has already been put in place,” she told The Sligo Champion.
And although there were jobs lost in the town during difficult economic years, Geraldine feels that Tubbercurry is progressing well.
“The Chamber was 25 years old last year so we’re a long time on the go. I suppose the town went through a bit of a decline there with jobs going but we’re trying to progress and we have done so. We have the enterprise centre, we have a new tourism group.
“We acquired a bit of funding too, to fix up the playground. So while Louise was leading the way, I was right beside her through all of this,” she added.
Heavily involved in the community, she will continue to do so within her role as Chamber President.
And one of the big things she says the Chamber will continue to push is shopping local and the positive impact it has on a town.
“I’ve been heavily involved in the community for about ten years and I will continue to do so during my role as President of the Chamber.
“I think Tubbercurry is in a really good place at the minute. There are a lot of new people coming in. So we just want to help sustain the town.
“We will promote shopping in local businesses. Local businesses here can help support community groups, which we’re happy to do.
“I’m really looking forward to taking on my role and to the challenge ahead.”
