Events to mark Yeats Day

THE granddaugh­ter of WB Yeats will be in town today ( Tuesday June 13th) for the sixth annual celebratio­n of Yeats Day.

There will be a host of events taking place across the town in celebratio­n of the Nobel laureate.

At 12 noon, children from Ann Carton Creche will recite some of Yeats’ writing at Sligo County Library. From around 1.15pm, Caitriona Yeats and the Mr. Yeats puppet will cut the Yeats cake outside Hargadons pub on O’Connell Street. The Yeats puppet is 25ft creation by artist Cillian Rodgers.

Shortly afterwards, James Joyce will wish WB Yeats a happy birthday at Hargadons Pub. A Mad Hatters Tea Party at Hearts Desire Cafe will be next at 2.30.

The opening of the Crazy Jane art exhibition at Hamilton Gallery is scheduled to start at 5pm.

And finally at 7.30, the guest of honour poet and writer Dermot Bolger will be at The Factory.

Music, poetry and artistic works take centre stage during this celebratio­n.
