Man drowns at Streedagh

AN inquest will be held at a later date following the death of a Ukrainian man in his 40s who got into difficulties after entering the water at Streedagh Point in North Sligo on Saturday evening. The man is understood to have been with another man around 7.15pm either angling or snorkelling. A passer- by raised the alarm after they were seen getting into difficulties. Rescue 118 helicopter attended at the scene from Strandhill while Sligo Bay Life Boat was also present. The man was airlifted to Sligo University Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
