Rathcormac­k group feted at City Hall

RATHCORMAC­K Church Folk Group celebrated its silver anniversar­y last Friday week with a visit to City Hall and a welcome by the Mayor of Sligo Municpal District, Cllr Marie Casserly. OVER 40 Members of the group were present for the reception.

The Mayor spoke about the Group being together for 25 years which was set up by Fr Michael when he came to Drumcliffe in 1992.

Mary McCarthy was the founder member and is still with the Group.

They perform at many charity events across the North West including the Yeats United- Cos Cos Pageant, funerals, weddings, Christmas concerts, the Thanksgivi­ng Harvest in Drumcliffe, Ecumenical Services for deceased children at Cregg House and Sligo University Hospital over the past 25 years.

This special group of people whose friendship, singing, laughter and fun was so infectious raised the roof at City Hall with their heartwarmi­ng rendition of Abba’s ‘ The way old friends do’ and ‘ Ireland’s Call.’

Goretti, one of the longest serving members thanked the Mayor for her hospitalit­y and spoke of the lifetime friendship­s formed in the group.

The evening concluded with a photocall before they headed off for a celebratio­n Mass at Drumcliffe Church followed by entertainm­ent at Collins Pub.
