Drove ‘ garage car’ but did not have insurance
A young man who drove a car which was given to his mother as her own car was in the garage for repairs was fined for not having insurance at Sligo District Court.
Before the court was Rory Hoffman ( 21) of Ardmore, Boyle who admitted a charge of driving without insurance at Killaraght, Boyle on July 7th 2016.
The court was told he did not have any previous convictions.
Garda Brennan, in evidence, said the defendant led him to believe there was insurance in place but it later transpired that he hadn’t. The car was seized.
Mr Tom MacSharry, solicitor ( defending) pleaded that the defendant was never in court before.
Mr MacSharry said the car which the defendant was driving belonged to a garage as his mother’s car was in for repairs.
He was at present doing a course in horsemanship. He was in court accompanied by his mother, said Mr MacSharry who added that the defendant had lost his father in tragic circumstances some time ago.
Judge Kevin Kilrane ( pictured) fined the defendant € 200.
