Rowers pipped in final
SLIGO Rowing Club’s Intermediate sculler Glen Patterson and Junior Sculler Brian Colsh made the trip to Wicklow to race on the Blessington lakes at Dublin Metropolitan Regatta where both scullers put in excellent performances. Brian who’s race was in choppy conditions and against a stiff headwind on the open lake rowed a very good time of 7: 21 minutes over the 2000 metre course against strong opposition from Carlow, Commercial, Blackrock and Shandon. Glen who raced for the first time in the club’s recently purchased single “Beezie Gallagher” put in a winning qualifying time of 6: 28 minutes against opposition from Offaly, Garda, Commercial and Shandon. Unfortunately in the final, the finish line came just a little early for Glen who is renowned for his strong finishes with Glen finishing only half a second behind the winner with a time of 6: 53minutes whilst regaining water with every stroke. The next regatta is the next regatta is in Athlone this weekend on Lough Ree. Sligo Rowing Club’s own regatta is on July 29th.
