COOLERA/ STRANDHILL

Under 14 Girls The under 14 girls had to settle for second best in their league match with C. T. Gaels last Tuesday in Ransboro. Final score was 4- 12 to 2- 04. This was Susannah Garcia’s last game before returning to Spain, and we all wish her well in the future. Team; Susannah Garcia, Amy Hampson, Ciara Lindsay, Cliodhna Davitt, Grace Molloy, Holly Gilligan, Cliodhna O’ Sullivan ( 0- 01), Amy Deering ( 001), Keri Mitchell, Beibhinn Harte ( 1- 01), Nessa O’ Sullivan ( Aoife Gormley) , Enya Hughes ( Shona Dalton), Mary Kate McPartland ( Hannah Burrows ( 0- 01). Junior League The Junior team got back to winning ways with a six point victory over St. John’s. Their next match is this Friday at home to Curry at 7.00pm. Team; Colm Scanlon, James Hampson ( Diarmuid Loftus), Mark Comerford ( 001), Ronan Redmond ( 1- 01) ( Alan Scanlon ( 0- 01)), Seán Callaghan ( 0- 03) ( David McGee), Conor O’ Mahony ( 0- 01), Colin Parke, David Kilrehill ( 0- 01), Kieran Prior ( 1- 05), Frankie O’ Flynn ( Karl O’ Reilly ( 0- 02)), John Kilrehill ( 1- 00) ( Graham Kelly). Benson Cup For the second time in a week the senior footballers faced St. John’s in Stenson Park, this time in the Benson Cup. The wides were to prove costly as the home side dominated the second half and two late goals were to be the decisive scores leading to a 2- 12 to 0- 12 win for St. John’s. Under 14 Boys Our u14 boys went down to Shamrock Gaels by ten points in our final league game. Once again we gave our opponents too much lee way in the first half, despite the best efforts of the excellent Cathal Morahan in goal and some fine scoring from Andrew Lynch. On the wing Conor Keane was another to link up well with the hard working midfield duo of Ross Doherty and Liam Gilligan. The second half saw total domination by the Coolera boys as they began to claw back the halftime deficit. Fine running from Jamie Walsh got Ciaran Langan on the scoresheet. Rory Kinane, Cormac Henaghan and the rocklike Owen McKirdy all displayed great tenacity in defence. Naoise Brennan gave his all as usual and subs Jakub Krajluski and Aaron Lindsay impressed when coming on. Despite outscoring our opponents 2.07 to 0- 04 in the second half, the full time whistle intervened to secure victory for the Riverstown side. County Representatives Best wishes to our club players Keelan Cawley, Niall Murphy and Peter Laffey who are part of the Sligo squad that takes on Antrim in the All- Ireland qualifier in Markievicz Park this Saturday at 5.00pm.

FIXTURES. 13 June @ 7 U12 footballers ( 2 teams) are home to Owenmore Gaels. ROAD To Croker. AND so the road to Croker for Sligo seniors begins with a home game against Antrim. IT is very disappointing that again this week vandalism has taken place in Kilcoyne park with windows and lights being broken and stones been thrown onto the pitches. Also the stand continues to be used for anti social activities.

Please respect the contribution that the club as an amateur organization is making to the community.

ENNISCRONE/ KILGLASS

FUNDRAISING WE have been overwhelmed with the generosity of the local community and indeed beyond in our fundraising efforts for the new Indoor Astro Turf complex. After last week’s collection we are at € 70200 and wish to thank all of those who have donated already for their fantastic generosity. We still require € 5000 more to hit our target, and anyone who wishes to sponsor a block or a brick can visit our website or contact any committee member. INTERMEDIATE OUR intermediate team suffered a setback to their promotion ambitions last Sunday when they slumped to a 3- 14 to 0- 8 defeat to Ballymote at Corran Park in the league. Having played into the breeze in the first half, our lads performed relatively well and trailed 0- 8 to 0- 3 at half- time, but the loss of a number of players and a poor second half performance led to a heavy defeat. The lads will look to bounce back when they host Easkey in the next round on Friday next at 8pm in Quigabar. MINOR/ U16 BEST wishes to all club players sitting state examinations over the next couple of weeks. Training continues for all minors and U- 16s who are free of exam commitments. U- 14 OUR U- 14 boys lost out to Eastern Harps, 4- 7 to 3- 8, in the final round of the Division Two league last Thursday evening. Minus the services of some key personnel, the lads led for the majority of the encounter but a late Harps’ surge gave them the points. This squad will travel to Feile on Friday week to represent the club and county, and based on their league performance they will be fine ambassadors. U- 12 OUR U- 12s return to action this Wednesday evening when they play Tourlestrane at 7pm. BONFIRE Night WE will once again be hosting a bonfire night event at Sheridan’s Kilglass on June 23rd this year. night. It all kicks off at 8.30pm – everyone welcome.

ST MARY’S

IT was a quiet week for the older teams in Bord na nOg and we hope those sitting the leaving and junior certificate are satisfied so far and wish them luck with the remainder of the examinations. The U12’ s sent 2 teams to the Herron Cup tournament in Ardara on Saturday. The older team qualified for the final by winning the 3 matches in their Group against St Pats of Donabate ( managed by Dublin great Ciaran Whelan), St Eunans Letterkenny and MacCumhaills of Ballybofey. Their impressive display continued into the final, but unfortunately a quick start from our opponents Sylvesters of Malahide proved a bridge too far. Our younger side played great football but were edged in both of their matches by the Dublin sides of St Pats and Sylvesters. It was a good outing for our lads and shows they are progressing very well. The U14 Division 1 boys had a comfortable win in the last round of the league against Curry and there were stand- out performances from Saeedi Turnaweher and Jack Canning. Our lads seem to be hitting form at the right time for the Feile. Impressive displays throughout the league have qualified the team for the league final where they will play either Drumcliffe Rosses Point or Ballymote Bunninaden. The Division 3 team played good football when beaten by a stronger Geevagh side and Adam Connolly and John Mackey gave notable performances. They have qualified for the Division 3 league semi- final which will be played on June 19th. Preparations for the Feile are continuing and there was a very successful carwash on Saturday. Thanks to those giving their time to help out and to every- one who supported the fundraiser. The U12 Girls had a great training session on Saturday morning and thanks to senior Players Johnny Martyn and Niall McManus for helping out. There is a clear week on week improvement in these girls and they put in a total effort at each training. The U14 girls will play St Michaels in their last league match this Wednesday. The Junior mens’ side continues its good run of form and the guys are really enjoying their football, as the squad builds This week, sporting our black Kevinsfort strip, we travelled to Cloonacool and Gary O’Hehir after a number of consistent performances was given the captain’s armband and again led by example. An impressive display of disciplined football in the second half closed the game out. We continue to welcome back players and great to see Dylan Corcoran putting in his trademark solid display and scoring points off both feet. St Mary’s can look forward to the next league match when Shamrock Gaels visit Kent Park on Friday at 8pm. Training continues during the week. The Senior side had no match this weekend and host Eastern Harps in the Kiernan Cup on Sunday at 1pm.
