TRANSPORT SERVICES

A plan is in place for the setting- up of a comprehens­ive North Leitrim public transport service from July 1, a recent North Leitrim Community Developmen­t Network public meeting in Manorhamil­ton heard.

Under the auspices of the National Transport Authority ( NTA), Local Link Sligo Leitrim Roscommon will provide several new public transport services within the North Leitrim area, as well as connecting services to Carrick- on- Shannon, Sligo and Bundoran/ Ballyshann­on.

The meeting was addressed by Camilla Kelly, the manager of the Local Link Sligo Leitrim Roscommon, assisted by colleague, John Carr. Local Link Sligo Leitrim Roscommon has now replaced Rural Lift as a local transport provider.

Ms Kelly said ‘ there should be a nearly a comprehens­ive public transport service in the North Leitrim area by July 1’ A new leaflet will be circulated shortly giving full schedule timetable details of North Leitrim new public transport services.

Acting Network chairman, Pat Love called for ‘ the North Leitrim community to get behind the Local Link Sligo Leitrim Roscommon services when they come into operation.’ The Free Travel Pass will be accepted on the new transport services.

RAILWAY EXHIBITION

Sixty- years ago, on this September 30, the Collooney Sligo to Enniskille­n SLNCR ( Sligo Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway) Railway closed.

To mark this major occurrence in the lives of North Leitrim people in particular at the time, the Manorhamil­ton and District Historical Society will host an exhibition on the SLNCR in the Leitrim Sculpture Centre from Friday, August 25, to Saturday, September 1, The Manorhamil­ton and District Historical Society is putting out a call to people with memorabili­a in their homes ( or where ever) relating to the Railway Line, etc., to please make it available for the forthcomin­g Railway Exhibition.

Anyone, who has SLNCR memorabili­a that they would like to make available for the SLNCR Railway Exhibition is asked to please contact Margaret Connolly ( phone 086 8095109) or Maureen Keaney ( phone 087 2368571).

LARGY’S TWO- IN- A- ROW

After capturing their first ever girls title last year, Largy National School made it two- in- a- row on Tuesday, May 30, when the school won the two- teacher Girls Leitrim Cumann na mBunscoil county title again.

This time the school that overlooks Glenade Valley came won against a gallant, gracious but young Leckaun NS side at a sun drenched Páirc Seán the large number of parents and supporters who travelled up were not to be disappoint­ed, as these young girls put on a display that was fitting for the occasion. This year Largy also defeated Aughawilla­n, Dowra, Drumlea and Ardvarney.

MANOR IN FAI ELITE EIGHT

It was recently announced in the Aviva Stadium that Manor Rangers has made it in to the last eight ( Elite 8) of the contenders for the 2017 FAI Club of the Year awards.

Reacting to the Aviva Stadium announceme­nt Manor Rangers PRO, Dave Cummins said ‘ next step is for the club to make a full presentati­on outlining why we should become the Aviva Club of Year 2017 at the FAI AGM in July. Great day for the club.’
