Big week of for Sligo/ Leitrim girls

THE Gaynor Cup for the U14s and U16s is taking place in the University of Limerick from June 21- 25. The U16s girls’ coach Damien Rushe says preparation is going well. He oversees the team along with Rodney Reddy and Maryann O’Kennedy. “We are training twice a week since last October. This year was our first year to introduce an 8- week Futsal program under the guidance of our RDO, John Russell. In early December our U12, U14 and U16 teams travelled to the AUL Complex in Dublin for friendlies with the MGL League with all the teams recording impressive wins there. Later that day the Girls went on to attend a Ladies International at Tallaght Stadium which was a great experience for everyone. This is a very dedicated group of players some of who are now participating in their 3rd and 4th Gaynor Cup campaigns. Aife Haran this year represented Connacht at U- 15 Inter Pro Schools tournament back in October. Both squads will be joined by the U- 12 Girls who have this year qualified for the All Ireland Semi final. This is a huge achievement to have all three Girls Teams there for Sligo/ Leitrim on one weekend.”
