Textalert couldbe shared

-

THERE are moves afoot to integrate text alerts from different areas to share information on local crime, writes Sorcha Crowley.

The County Sligo Joint Policing Committee meeting held last Friday heard from Chief Superintendent Michael Clancy that “there would be value in some form of integration” of the popular text alert system.

He told members it was being looked at in other parts of the country.

Vanessa Clarke said the town text alert system had been very quiet in the past month and said people were wondering if it was working.

“It would seem odd if there was nothing happening in the town,” she said.

Superintendent Mary Murray said she would look into it and see if there was an issue with it.

Pat Benson he would be in favour of sharing text alerts from other areas.

However David Tuffy said they would have to be relevant as it costs them ¤ 50 per text sent out in Enniscrone.

“Sending out a text for the sake of it still costs money,” he said.
