Dangerous gap worry

-

LOCALS in Ballymote have raised concerns over the dangerous state of a fence along a footpath at the Railway Bridge.

Councillor Margaret Gormley raised the issue at last week’s monthly County Council meeting.

“It’s extremely dangerous for children walking along the path - they’re inclined to slip down the openings,” she said.

“There is a huge drop of 12/ 14 feet - it’s a Health & Safety issue,” she said.

In response, the Council said the fence along the road is owned by Iarnród Eireann.

The Ballymote Area Engineer will contact Irish Rail in order to have the openings in the fence repaired, a spokesman told Cllr Gormley.
