-

A 29- year- old man has been charged with assault causing harm to another man at O’Connell Street in Sligo.

David Kelly of Garavogue Villas was charged with assault causing harm to Chakib Benhim on May 18th last.

Inspector Donal Sweeney told Sligo District Court last Thursday that it would be alleged the victim was struck above the eye by the accused who had a stone in his hand.

Mr Gerard McGovern, solicitor ( defending) said the defendant was in hospital in Castlebar.

The defendant was remanded on bail in his absence by Judge Kevin Kilrane until June 22nd.

The judge accepted jurisdiction in the case which means it will be heard in the District Court.

Mr McGovern later informed the court that the defendant had turned up and was advised his case had been put back.
