Calls for caution near water

-

THIS Is National Water Safety Awareness Week, June 19th to 25th. The number of drownings last year in Ireland reached 123, more than ten every month. Irish Water Safety is appealing to the public to avoid summer drowning tragedies by making water safety part of your conversation with family and friends. Drownings can happen quickly and silently. The public is urged to swim in life guard areas only and to never swim alone and to take heed of conditions before entering the water. People are also reminded that swimming is prohibited in Strandhill beach.
