Re- living Ally McBeal days through music

- By JESSICA FARRY

SHE was catapulted on to the world stage following her spell on Ally McBeal, but Vonda Shepard is a household name in her own right.

Coming to the Hawk’s Well on Friday, June 30th, Vonda is excited to visit a smaller venue than she is accustomed to.

Vonda first shot to fame through her long running appearances, performances and musical accompaniment on the smash hit US TV show Ally McBeal. The theme song ‘ Searching My Soul’ reached the top 10 in the UK and Vonda released a series of Ally inspired albums which went on to sell a staggering 12 million copies worldwide.

With the release of her 14th album, Rookie, Vonda will be performing new and old songs alike with her smoking hot band.

“I’m really excited to come to Ireland. I’ll be bringing my full band and we’ll be playing songs from my most recent album ‘ Rookie’ and songs from different albums.

“I’ll be playing all the Ally McBeal classics, I’ll save that towards the end of the show, although some of them will be dispersed throughout,” Vonda told The Sligo Champion.

Although Ally McBeal finished in 2002, it stays with Vonda.

“The show began 20 years ago, which is a long time. It stays with me and I released tons of albums during that time. I play those songs because the diehard Ally fans want to hear it. I want to give people what they want to hear,” she said.

Touring ever since the show finished, Vonda says she wants to continue for at least another ten years.

“I toured the whole time I was on the show too. It was intense and gruelling at times.

“Six months before the show ended, I knew there would be a quagmire and I would have to get doing something again,” she said.

Vonda has visited both Dublin and Belfast before, so she is excited about visiting a venue in a smaller town.

“I can’t wait. It’s fun to branch out and visit smaller places. That’s what I live for. I can’t wait to see the countryside, it sounds beautiful.

“I love Irish music. I’m a tiny bit Irish, my Mum is half Irish. I don’t know any indigenous Irish music artists, and I don’t want to brag but I am good friends with The Corrs. I know they don’t play traditional music and it’s more pop.”

Tickets are € 28 with a special rate of € 14 for under 18s and are available from the Hawk’s Well Theatre Box Office on 071 916 1518 or www. hawkswell. com.
